This text is intended for a calculus-based introductory physics course for science and engineering students. Ideally, students should have completed one semester of calculus. However, calculus may also be taken concurrently. Derivatives are used sparingly in the early chapters in Mechanics, and integrals appear for the first time in Chapter 7 (Work and Energy) but are not crucial for the understanding of basic concepts.
This 4th. edition of University Physics incorporates several changes meant to enhance the appeal and effectiveness of the text and includes several new applications of Physics in Science, Engineering and everyday life. Despite the addition of new material this 4th. edition remains relatively short.
